How the tower is matched on 160 meter topband
In April 2002 I decided to return to 160 meter topband after being absent since 1967 (..).
The ground radial system was already in place a few years since my half 80mtr sloper needs some ground counter pole. Being the lucky owner of an ATS-2 remote tuning unit , which formerly was used at the U.S. embassy here in Stockholm, it was a piece of cake to match the tower to an almost exact 50 ohm resistive load. The left picture shows the shunt feeder attached to the tower at 18 meters. The right picture shows the remote tuning unit ATS-2 controlled from the 'shack'. ( The cover was removed for this picture only :-). The ATS-2 can handle 1KW+ without getting 'burned'. As I use the Titan-425 amplifier, which is perfectly running on topband, we use the maximum legal limit here in Sweden of 1KW with ease. Anyway, it was a real pleasure to be back on 160 after so many years.
See U on topband!
